At Piranha Bar we love to be part of projects that break ground. We love the creative buzz of working on innovative ideas.
One of these innovative projects is the new commercial for MyHome.ie for Havas Worldwide Dublin – the very first commercial to create a stereographic, live-action planetoid view of the world.
So what does this mean in non tech-geek terms?
Put simply(ish!), the six-sensor camera we mounted onto the roof of a zippy little Smart Car captured and stitched six images in real time, resulting in 360 degree panoramic strips. Some VFX trickery in the studio here then wrapped the image strips into the spherical planetoids, creating the cool micro-worlds you see in the ad.
Director and VFX Supervisor, Piranha Bar’s Gavin Kelly, says of the process: “We had a compositing workflow that saw us start with these panoramas – stabilising, cleaning up, wrapping into a planetoid. And then we had the small matter of removing the car and sections of the road frame by frame!
“It was also a challenge to find cool locations – they look completely different as planetoids so when scouting for locations we looked for interesting features that scanned well, such as the houses in Howth with the ‘Toblerone’ triangular roofs and Christchurch.”
We went round in circles, literally!
